Byram, MS Police Department and Municipal Court Space Needs Study

Byram was a recently incorporated municipality south of Jackson, the State’s capital. Byram is located about 10 miles south of Jackson, the state capital. The city is bordered by the Pearl River to the east. Byram is a popular suburb of Jackson, and many residents commute to the city for work. The moved into available spaces where possible and the police department was moved into a four-unit commercial strip. Over time, it was inevitable that space would be at a premium. The department had a small parking area behind the facility but it was in no way adequate for vehicles, employee vehicles or impound vehicles. Safety and security was another issue.

The city asked us to review several property parcels of various sizes in and around the city and evaluate them for possible use as a public safety entity. Court services were included. The final study will enable the city to decide between several parcels and give them an opportunity to co-located additional city departments as well.
