Medley, FL Police Department Space Needs Study

Medley, Florida, is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is located in northwest Miami-Dade County, about 12 miles northwest of downtown Miami. The town has a population of over 1,000 people.

Medley was founded in 1949 and was originally known as the "Town of Medley." The town was named after the Medley family, who were early settlers in the area. Medley was a major agricultural center in the early 20th century, and was known for its citrus groves.

Today, Medley is a suburban community with a diverse population. The town is home to a number of businesses, including manufacturing, healthcare, and retail. Medley is also home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Medley Community Center and the Medley Library.

Medley had constructed a 44,000 square foot, four story administrative facility. The police department, located in an older former television station studio had outlived its usefulness as a police facility. The layout of the existing facility in no way contributed to an efficient use of space as a law enforcement facility. Evidence was located in four different locations around the facility. Security and public access were non-existent.

The facility was located near the Florida coast and was never designed for hurricane force winds. The city was approached by an entity with a plan to redevelop the police parcel and retained CPS to conduct a space need study for current and future needs as well as to examine whether the police department could be accommodated in the administration facility without a loss of space efficiency or reduction in the level of service afforded the public.
