River Vale, New Jersey Police and Municipal Court Spatial Needs Study
Located in Bergin County, north of New York City, River Vale’s police department was housed in what was an old DPW or Department of Public Works facility and still adjacent to public works facilities and storage structures. Security, lack of space, non-compliance with modern design codes and the ADA were prime concerns.
Another driver was that this department had experienced several very rare and aggressive forms of cancer that had afflicted staff. There was a desire to move the department away from that location. CPS worked with the police department and the courts to create a space needs study that would incorporate the two entities into one facility. This was important as River Vale was a land-locked community where much of the green space was water-shed and could not be developed under any circumstances.
