Sheridan County, Montana 911 & EOC Spatial Needs Study
Sheridan County’s Office of Emergency Management and 911 Center was located on the second floor of the county’s historic courthouse. The courthouse also houses additional county offices, the Sheriff’s Office, the jail and a county library as well as all county records.
Over the past few decades all of the spaces had been renovated and subdivided to create different works spaces and allocate spaces to various departments based on need. The result was smaller and smaller work spaces and a confusion about heating a cooling ducts as some renovated spaces did not have vents resulting in wildly fluctuating temperatures in a county on the Montana/Canada border.
CPS was retained to provide current and future spatial projections for the EM and 911 entities as well as examine an existing structure located immediately adjacent to the courthouse on land already owned by the county. The structure, a two-story wood framed building had not been in use until infrequently used by a local charity. The structure, upon examination had prevalent issues with mold, mildew and water intrusion and the suggested recommendation was to demolish the structure and build a new.
