Washington, NC Police Department Space Needs Study
Washington, North Carolina is a city located on the northern bank of the Pamlico River in Beaufort County. It is the county seat of Beaufort County and is commonly known as "Original Washington" or "Little Washington" to distinguish it from Washington, D.C. The population of Washington was 9,705 as of the 2021 census.
Washington is a historic city with a rich past. It was founded in 1776 on land donated by Col. James Bonner and was named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. During the American Revolutionary War, Washington served as a supply port when major neighboring ports were under British siege.
Washington is also known for its beautiful waterfront and its proximity to the Outer Banks. The city is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including fishing, boating, swimming, and kayaking. Washington is also home to a number of historic sites, including the James Bonner House, the Beaufort County Courthouse, and the Old Jail.
CPS was retained to conduct a space needs study for the police department which for many years had been housed in a small structure downtown. As the department grew the surround residential neighborhoods became more vocal about the police vehicles and traffic prompting city officials to consider options to move the department to a more appropriate space.
